A man who became lost while hiking on the North Shore on Wednesday was located on Thursday, thanks to a joint search effort between Lions Bay and North Shore Search and Rescue (SAR) crews.

According to Lions Bay SAR, the hiker’s last-known location was somewhere between Cypress Bowl and the West Lions.

North Shore SAR said he became lost and spent the night in a drainage ditch below the Howe Sound Crest Trail.

“At daybreak he began moving and eventually found a logging road in the watershed and began walking down the road,” they added.

And it was while he was on the road, rescuers said, that a contractor working in the watershed discovered him and gave him a ride back to the security gate.

At that point, he “was assessed and then flown back to Lions Bay to be debriefed by search crews.”
