Nintendo Switch 2 launch spawns huge lineups around Vancouver

June 5 marks the official launch of the highly anticipated Nintendo Switch 2, and gamers around Metro Vancouver were ready and waiting the night before.

Hundreds of excited gamers were at EB Games locations around Metro Vancouver, waiting in line to get their hands on the new console, at locations hosting midnight launches. While it’s called a midnight launch, people were getting their hands on Switch 2 units as early as 9 p.m.

Daily Hive hit the streets before midnight to see what the lineups were like. We saw lineups at the EB Games location on West 8th Avenue, and even bigger ones at Metropolis at Metrotown.

The folks waiting in line were celebrating as gamers walked out of the Vancouver location with their brand-new consoles in hand. Many even came equipped with camping chairs to make the long wait a little more comfortable.

We spoke to a rep at the EB Games Vancouver location, who told Daily Hive that people were waiting in line as early as the afternoon. We were also informed that they had some stock available for those who didn’t pre-order.

While the representative wasn’t at liberty to share exactly how many units the Vancouver location received, it seemed like there was a fairly substantial supply.

Between the two locations, hundreds of people were in line when we were on the scene. Others likely already got their Switch 2s and left. With other locations around B.C. doing midnight launches, likely thousands were waiting for a Switch 2 on Wednesday night across the province.

Security was on the scene at both locations, keeping the waiting Nintendo fans safe.

Nintendo’s latest console isn’t cheap. It launches in two varieties, standalone and a bundle with the latest Mario Kart title, Mario Kart World. They go for $629 and $699, respectively.
