The votes are in and the fans have chosen.
The four divisional captains have been selected for the 2019 NHL-All Star Game.
From December 1 to 23, hockey fans around the globe were given the chance to cast their vote and select captains from a sea of worthy candidates.
The selected players are as follows:
Atlantic Division: Auston Matthews (Centre) – Toronto Maple Leafs
Central Division: Nathan MacKinnon (Centre) – Colorado Avalanche
Metro Division: Alex Ovechkin (Left Winger) – Washington Capitals
Pacific Division: Connor McDavid (Centre) – Edmonton Oilers

Matthews, MacKinnon, and McDavid will each be making their third consecutive appearance in an NHL All-Star Game. McDavid has served as captain during each of his appearances, however, the captaincy is a newly-added honour for Matthews and McKinnon.
Ovechkin has played in seven All-Star Games, dating as far back as 2007, and will be captain of his division for the second straight year.
While the chosen captains, a result of the fan vote, are far from being a surprise, some notable players were left without a letter.
Colorado’s Mikko Rantanen, Tampa Bay’s Nikita Kucherov, and Toronto’s Mitch Marner are all among the NHL’s top five in points.
Similar to last year, the 2019 NHL All-Star Weekend will include a skills competition and a three-on-three tournament featuring the four divisional all-star teams. 11 players in total – six forwards, three defensemen, and two goalies – will make up each team.
The remaining spots will be chosen by the NHL’s Hockey Operations Department.
The 2019 NHL All-Star Game will be held in San Jose and will take place on Friday, January 25 and Saturday, January 26, 2019.
