One man is dead and the New Westminster Police Department (NWPD) is investigating after a shooting in the city over the weekend.

According to police, the incident took place at approximately 7:30 pm on Saturday night, when officers were called to the 600-block of East Columbia Street near Hume Park for a report of shots fired.
Upon their arrival, police found one man dead from gunshot wounds.
Police were ultimately able to locate the shooting suspect and take him into custody following the incident. Officials said there is no threat to the public surrounding this incident.
Now, the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) will be working in partnership with the NWPD during the investigation.
And while officials are still in the process of gathering evidence and determining a motive, they said at this point, the shooting doesn’t appear to be random.
