New Westminster "Jeopardy!" contestant says time on show was "surreal”

Did you catch Jeopardy! last night? If so, you must have seen New Westminster’s very own Chelsea Watt behind the iconic podium.

Watt told Daily Hive that being on the show was a lifelong dream and now that it’s come true, she is in the market for a new bucket list item.

Watt said she’d watched the game show for decades and has attempted to be cast for years to flex her knowledge.

The 36-year-old BC resident told Daily Hive her love for the quiz competition is what turned into a love for trivia.

Eventually, Watt and her friends created a trivia team and competed in pub trivia for nearly 10 years.

On Tuesday, she had an unreal full-circle moment as she watched her Jeopardy! episode live with friends and family at the bar where they played trivia.

While Watt lost, she admitted it was still “such a fun experience.”

Obviously you always want to win. But I kind of knew going into it that I was at a disadvantage being Canadian. So I’m so happy with how I did it all,” she said.

Though she had previously told Daily Hive she was practicing her buzzer skills, after the episode aired she said the buzzer was the toughest part of the game.

Watt said the experience had been “totally surreal” and added, “It’s amazing to have accomplished it.”

While she is not used to the spotlight, she said she’s taking away an important lesson and encourages others to do the same: “Do the fun and cool things that make you uncomfortable because you’re probably going to be happy that you did.”
