New West police investigate seniors' centre theft involving bizarrely disguised suspects

The New Westminster Police Department (NWPD) is investigating a theft from a seniors’ centre that appears to be right out of a scene from a budget rendition of Ghostbusters.

In a news release, NWPD said that on Aug. 9,  it learned of an overnight theft of audio equipment from a seniors’ care community located on the 900 block of Colborne Street.

Police said staff arrived at work to find that a floor of the centre had been “ransacked” and electronic music equipment had been left on the street outside.

The NWPD also released CCTV footage of the suspects, which shows two people — covered in what appears to be sheets or towels — attempting to move the equipment outside the building.

The first suspect is described as a male in his 30s with brown, shaved hair and a right forearm tattoo sleeve. He was wearing a blue shirt, grey shorts, brown sandals, and a red and black Toronto Raptors backpack.

The second suspect is described as a woman in her 30s, wearing black and white wedge sneakers. She had shoulder-length blonde hair and was wearing a green Adidas ball cap, a grey patterned top, a pleated mini skirt, a black cross-body purse, and glasses.

While the equipment was found, NWPD communications officer Hailey Finnigan noted that the theft targeting a seniors’ centre was a “real low.”

“These seniors use this equipment to make music together,” she stated.

Anyone who recognizes the two suspects should contact the New Westminster Police Department at 604-525-5411.
