New Vegetarian Restaurants in Vancouver

Dec 19 2017, 2:51 pm

2012 was a great year for the Vegetarian scene in Vancouver. There were three new vegetarian restaurants that were really enticing and have people asking for more: Heirloom Vegetarian, Acorn and The Parker. Each one, in their own right, showed Vancouver (and a few doubters) that Vegetarian cuisine can be filling, mouth watering and a fine dining experience.

Check these hot spots out!

Heirloom Vegetarian

Opened October 2012 in the South Granville district; Heirloom is a new vegetarian restaurant that provides healthy, creative and delicious cuisine not only for vegans, vegetarians, raw foodists and those who are gluten free but for anyone who enjoys a fantastic meal in a beautiful space. Not only is the food and service amazing but they also are committed to making green choices. Heirloom chooses organic, fair trade and local ingredients in an effort of making ethically conscious decisions. They are open for breakfast, lunch, dinner and drinks.

Dishes to order: Wild and foraged mushrooms and the Yams.

Acorn

Opened in July 2012 on Main Street, Acorn is a new vegetarian restaurant that offers vegan, raw and gluten free dishes that portray creativity with enticing flavours and presentation. They continue the creativity that is displayed on the menu with their signature cocktails served from their very hip and modern bar. No wonder there’s often a line up! Vancouver does not have a lot of fine dining options for us veggies but Acorn really delivers. They are open for dinner and drinks every day except Monday.

Dishes to order: Walnut and King oyster mushroom

The Parker

Opened in October 2012 on Union Street, The Parker is an intimate Vegetarian restaurant that offers artistically plated cuisine for a refined palate. They serve vegetarian, vegan and gluten free dishes.  The menu is ever changing; focusing on what is local and fresh with the aim to have zero waste! The service is impeccable and the mixologist really knows his way around a bar. Although the cocktail list is small it won’t disappoint! Steve Da Cruz (owner and mixologist) loves a challenge and will create a drink special for you! When in doubt, try the Shiroku, it’s delicious. They are open for dinner Tuesday to Saturday and brunch Tuesday to Sunday. I recommend reservations.

Dishes to order: Hazelnut dukka and crisps and Handmade agnolotti.

These fine establishments are demonstrating how great vegetarian and vegan cuisine can be.

Eat well.
