People typically find themselves at physio as a doctor-recommended solution to fix a problem: back pain from sitting all day at your desk job, or injury-specific rehab, like tearing your ACL during a rec soccer game. They fix you up and you’re on your way.
But what if you could invest in your physical health before any chronic injuries, aches, or weird knee-clicks arise? Myodetox is a Canadian start-up that’s shaking up the physio industry by optimizing fitness and physical well-being, pronto.
This new type of physiotherapy studio that’s just opened its flagship in Kits is doing everything differently. Walking into Myodetox, you’ll see it’s a modern, design-forward space that feels a lot more “Drake music video” than “sad hospital clinic.”
“Traditional physiotherapy clinics are rigid and cold,” says co-founder and CEO Scott Marcaccio. “We’re reinventing the entire therapy experience the moment you step into one of our clinics. We’re creating a space that is energetic, beautifully designed, comfortable, and welcoming.”
Once you’ve been checked in by the Experience Team (just like you’re at the spa) you get to choose between one of two customizable services based on your needs: Heal or Reset. Heal sessions focus on fixing your pain and injuries, while Reset sessions work on improving your posture and the way you move, helping you prevent injuries, chronic pain, and unnecessary wear and tear on your bod.
Whether you come in for Heal or Reset, is all dependent on if you’re experiencing a minor or complex injury, or simply want to optimize your body as part of regular maintenance.
Your first appointment will be a comprehensive 60-minute one-on-one session to assess your body’s movement and weaknesses. After that, your physio will build a custom plan tailored to your needs and goals that you’ll work on in a series of private, personalized 30-minute sessions. Your plan includes hands-on treatment, corrective stretches, and therapist-prescribed exercises.
All treatments are delivered by either a licensed physiotherapist, chiropractor, or registered massage therapist, and all sessions are compatible with major insurance providers (because it’s always better when work is covering the bill).
So, your custom sessions can help you recover from something specific or you can treat yourself to the kind of fitness maintenance that’s going to keep you climbing, running, snowboarding, and feeling awesome long after you’ve given up on aerial yoga.
Myodetox launched its first location in 2015 in Toronto and has already become super popular with a growing group of young and active urbanites as part of a holistic lifestyle. Olympic Gold Medal–winning snowboarder Chloe Kim is a big fan (and just think about how much time she spends jumping in and out of a 22-foot halfpipe), along with Platinum artist, Jessie Reyez.
Myodetox Kitsilano is open seven days a week and is located on West 4th in Kitsilano. Pay them a visit as soon as you’re ready to start future-proofing!
