My Vancouver 2016: B.C. Premier Christy Clark

Dec 20 2017, 3:23 am

Welcome to My Vancouver 2016, a curation of local industry experts, community and thought leaders, each telling us their resolutions for Vancouver in 2016. Since 2008, we’ve been bringing you a bucket list of things to do around the city while also keeping you informed with the many issues in our community. Now, we’re focusing on what’s next: the evolution of our city into something greater, starting with 2016.

What do you do?

I’m the Premier of British Columbia – working to support B.C.’s diverse, growing economy to create jobs, and I’m also a mom.

When did you come to Vancouver?

I was born in Burnaby in 1965. I grew up there, but I’ve also lived in Port Moody and Vancouver.

What do you love most about Vancouver?

Vancouver has a beauty, and a cultural diversity, that is unmatched in North America. Where else are so many people from around the world welcomed with open arms, and celebrated for their uniqueness?

If you could make one New Year’s resolution for your industry in Vancouver for 2016, what would it be?

To do everything we can to make Vancouver a thriving, livable city now and in the future, by working to strengthen the city and the province as a whole. That means working with other levels of government, including First Nations, on a host of initiatives to ensure we’re not only prosperous, but planning for growth, investing in the future, and helping people on the issues most important to them today.

For example, housing. To help people get into the market, I’m working with my partners in the City and Ottawa to make it as affordable as possible, while protecting the investment current homeowners have made.
