My Vancouver 2016: Marc Emery

Dec 20 2017, 3:25 am

Welcome to My Vancouver 2016, a curation of local industry experts, community and thought leaders, each telling us their resolutions for Vancouver in 2016. Since 2008, we’ve been bringing you a bucket list of things to do around the city while also keeping you informed with the many issues in our community. Now, we’re focusing on what’s next: the evolution of our city into something greater, starting with 2016.

What do you do?

I am a cannabis advocate and businessman who has made a career of principled lawbreaking in order to legalize marijuana.

When did you come to Vancouver?

I arrived in Vancouver, where I had never been before, on March 1, 1994, after two years of living in Asia plotting my hemp revolution, to set history in motion.

What do you love most about Vancouver?

Vancouver is the most fluid, changeable and dynamic city in Canada, and the people here reflect this; they are tolerant, open-minded and experience change here as a matter of the natural order of things.

If you could make one New Year’s resolution for your industry in Vancouver for 2016, what would it be?

That the Trudeau government completes its promise to legalize marijuana and does so fully without unfair restrictive or punitive taxation or regulation.
