After announcing back in February that it planned to open a store in Richmond this spring, an official opening date has now been announced for the third Metro Vancouver location of Japanese retailer, MUJI.

Located in CF Richmond Centre shopping mall, the store will occupy 6,355 sq. ft. of retail space.

The grand opening is planned for Saturday, April 28th. On Saturday and Sunday, the first 500 customers will receive a limited edition MUJI Richmond Centre tote bag with a purchase of $20 or more.

“There are many people who already know about MUJI in the Richmond area,” said MUJI Canada president, Toru Akita. “We’ve received many requests to open a store in Richmond. After considering different locations, we are pleased that we finally found the right place.”

Although the new store is smaller than the retailer’s other BC locations, Akita said the store will still offer a wide variety of products, “as well as the latest store experience.”

In a previous interview with Daily Hive, MUJI Canada CEO Toru Akita said the company’s plans to expand in the Metro Vancouver market were accelerated following the immediate and unprecedented success of the Metrotown location.

“The Metrotown store opening was the biggest store opening in the Canada and United States markets,” he said. “We never experienced that before.”

As well, within the first two weeks of the Metrotown store’s operations, it had sold more product than all four of the Toronto stores combined.
