17 movies and TV shows filming in Vancouver this August

Summer is heating up in the city, and it’s the perfect time to hit the streets to catch a glimpse of your favourite stars on location – live and in action!

Here are 17 TV shows and movies filming in and around Vancouver this August.

Deadpool 2 – also known by its working title of ‘Love Machine’ – began filming in Vancouver recently and will continue until October.

That’s right ladies, Ryan Reynolds is in town! The comedy action movie stars Reynolds who will return to the big screen, and his hometown, in his tight red spandex as main character Wade Wilson in this sequel.

Dragged Across Concrete

This new movie starring Mel Gibson and Vince Vaughn will be filming in Vancouver right the way through to September. The crime drama centres on the pair who play police officers that get suspended when video footage of them gets out to the public, and eventually end up entering the criminal world.

Richard Says Goodbye

Starring the one and only Johnny Depp, Richard Says Goodbye will be filming in town until the end of August, and our cameras already got a sneak peak of him! 

The film will follow Depp as he plays a college professor who ends up getting a life-changing diagnosis that causes him to live life with reckless abandon.

The Women of Marwen

The Women of Marwen starts filming in Vancouver at the beginning of August. Starring the hilarious Steve Carell, this drama follows a man who has lost his memory after a vicious attack and ends up finding comfort in a village populated by dolls. The film is a dramatization of the 2010 documentary Marwencol.

Skyscraper

Skyscraper begins filming in Vancouver this August and stars none other than Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson. Joining Johnson on set is Neve Campbell, and BC native Pablo Schreiber.

The film is set in China and stars Johnson as Will Ford, a former FBI hostage rescue team leader and U.S. war veteran whose job is to assess security for skyscrapers.

The Buddy Games

Written by Josh Duhamel with a friend, The Buddy Games will be filming in Vancouver through August. The movie follows a group of friends who are brought back together again after a prank goes bad.

Duhamel has spoken about the film saying that the movie stems from a yearly competition he does with his friends for fun.

Summer of ’84

Summer of ’84 began filming in Vancouver this July and continues through to August. The feature film – starring William MacDonald and Caleb Emery – follows a group of teenagers who suspect that their police officer neighbour is a serial killer. The group begins to spy on him but quickly realize that uncovering the truth can be dangerous.

Riverdale – Season 2

The hit show Riverdale returned to Metro Vancouver to film its second season this past month. Some of the cast have been spotted around town at various filming locations.

Now that we know who killed Jason Blossom, who knows what season two will have in store!

Life Sentence – Season 1

A new comedy drama series by The CW starring Lucy Hale will start filming in Vancouver this August. Life Sentence will follow main character Stella, played by Hale, who suddenly finds out her terminal cancer has been cured, and now she must live with the choices she made when she thought she was dying.

iZombie – Season 4

After being renewed for another season in May, iZombie returns to Vancouver to film its fourth season starting August 8 and will stay in town right the way through to January. The show is an adaptation of the comic books with the same name, and the series follows the life of Liv Moore who has been changed into a zombie and must satisfy her hunger to stay sane.

Once Upon a Time – Season 7

The fairytale continues in Steveston Village this summer to film the latest instalment of Once Upon a Time. A little spoiler for the new season was announced last month when writer Adam Horowitz tweeted this out.

Fans had mixed reactions to the news, with some wondering where the storyline will go after the season 6 finale. Guess we will have to watch and find out – in the meantime head on down to Steveston to catch some of the action!

Beyond – Season 2

Beyond is a TV series about a man who awakes from a coma with supernatural powers, and now must adjust to a new world while figuring out what has happened while he was unconscious for the past 12 years.

The show was renewed for a second series in January and season 2 will be filming in Vancouver into mid August.

Supernatural – Season 13

Back for its 13th season, Supernatural will be filming in Metro Vancouver this summer starring Jared Padalecki and Jensen Ackles. The series was renewed for another season in January and is set to air on The CW this fall.

Arrow – Season 6

Arrow returns to shoot its sixth season in Vancouver and star Stephen Amell was quoted saying that he hopes the new season will be more like the actual comics. After ending last season on a total cliffhanger, fans are just dying to know what will happen next!

The Flash – Season 4

Back for its fourth season, The Flash will be on location in Vancouver through to April 2018. Rumour has it that for the new season Barry will have a new suit after actor Grant Gustin shared this set photo on Instagram, revealing new gold trim and upgrades to his costume.

Legends of Tomorrow – Season 3

Another The CW show filming in Vancouver this summer through to February is Legends of Tomorrow. The series follows time master Rip Hunter who rallies together a group of heroes and villains to help prevent an apocalypse from happening on earth and destroying all time.

Supergirl – Season 3

Supergirl is back to save the day! Season 3 of the hit series started filming in Vancouver this July and will continue into August. Rumour has it that the new season will really test Supergirl‘s strength when she must take on a powerful creature from her hometown of Krypton.
