
A young mother and her infant have tragically passed away after an incident involving a falling tree in B.C.
According to Comox Valley RCMP, the incident occurred on July 31 at around 1:44 p.m. near Comox Lake on Vancouver Island.
Frontline officers from the Comox Valley RCMP department, as well as members of the Cumberland Fire Department, responded to the scene.
RCMP said that a tree fell on a 26-year-old mother and her five-month-old child.
“Despite the efforts of first responders, the young mother passed away at the scene. The infant was transported to hospital but sadly did not survive,” Comox Valley RCMP said in a media release.
So far, not much is known about the events that led up to the incident, but the RCMP has engaged the BC Coroners Service to investigate.
“Comox Valley RCMP will be working with BC Coroners Service to determine the exact
circumstances surrounding the deaths; however, based on the initial information, there is no criminality suspected.”
Comox Valley RCMP will not be offering any more information to the public about the incident out of respect for the victims’ family and the sensitive nature of the loss.
“We extend our deepest condolences to all those affected and thank the bystanders
who stepped in to help under heartbreaking circumstances.”
