Police in Montreal handed out hundreds of tickets for violating public health orders on Sunday as demonstrators gathered to protest the province’s latest lockdown to curb COVID-19 transmission.
A police spokesperson told Daily Hive officers handed out 280 violation tickets on Sunday. The price tag for each is $1,546, meaning it works out to more than $432,000 in fines for the entire demonstration.

Police are also referring six incidents to the prosecution service to potentially pursue charges.
Demonstrators started walking along Sherbrooke Street and gathered at Parc La Fontaine.
