As Halloween nears many of us are still unsure as to what to do with the pumpkins they just bought.  So if you’re in serious need of inspiration head on over to Metropolis at Metrotown this month, where monster pumpkins are being transformed into spooky, spectacular and awe-inspiring works of art as part of the brand-new Monster Pumpkins exhibit. Maybe you could replicate a few of those designs, on second thought maybe not.

The exhibit started last Saturday and runs until Halloween – Sunday, October 31. Monster Pumpkins will see world-renowned sand-sculptor turned pumpkin-carver, David Billings of Sandemons (www.sandemons.com), and his team of master artists turn some of North America’s largest pumpkins into epic creations of ghosts, ghouls and goblins.

Over the course of five scheduled days (October 16, 18, 20, 22, 24) a team of professional carvers will transform 40 pumpkins, each weighing between 50 and 200 pounds. Between October 25 and 29, Billings and another top carver will tackle two 800 to 1,000 pound giant Atlantic pumpkins! Monster Pumpkins will culminate in a friendly 10-person competition on October 30 featuring the who’s who of international pumpkin carving – just in time for Halloween.

When: October 16 to 31, 2010
– Carving Competition occurs October 30 from 11 AM to 3 PM
Times: Pumpkins are on display during mall hours, with carving occurring between 10 AM and 6 PM on above noted dates
