The RCMP is seeking the public’s assistance in locating two teens whose burning pickup truck was discovered in Northern BC last week.
Police say Kam McLeod, 19, and Bryer Schmegelsky, 18, have not been in contact with their families for the last few days.
On July 19, Dease Lake RCMP was called to a vehicle fire 50 km south of Dease Lake near the Stikine River Bridge on Highway 37. Upon investigation, police determined the vehicle belonged to McLeod and Schmegelsky.
Police later discovered a body two km away near the highway pullout. Authorities confirmed that the deceased person was neither McLeod or Schmegelsky.
Police say it is unclear how the deceased male may be connected with the vehicle fire or the missing men.
The man was between 5’8″ to 5’10” tall, Caucasian with a heavy build and a grey bushy beard. He was believed to be between 50 to 60 years old.
Anyone with any information about the deceased male is asked to please call 1-877-543-4822 or 778-290-5291.
McLeod and Schmegelsky were travelling through BC to get to Whitehorse in the Yukon Territory for work. It is unclear why they returned to BC.
In a press conference today, RCMP did not rule out the possibility that the missing persons’ case or the deceased man found near McLeod and Schmegelsky’s scorched vehicle could be linked to the deaths of 24-year-old Chynna Noelle Deese 23-year-old Lucas Robertson Fowler.
The young couple were the victims of gun violence in northern BC last week.
“It’s possible. It’s possible. We have two complex and dynamic ongoing investigations that are happening in Northern BC,” said Cpl. Chris Manseau.
The RCMP is asking McLeod and Schmegelsky to contact police as soon as possible.
“Or we ask that anyone who may have spoken to or seen them over the last few days to call police so we can get a better understanding as to where they might be or their plans,” said Dawn Roberts, of BC RCMP Communications, in a previous release.
