Mexican group to protest Vancouver Trump Tower on Tuesday

The Mexicans Living in Vancouver group is planning to protest the Trump Tower development on Georgia Street on Tuesday in an effort to show their outrage over Donald Trump’s recent comments about Mexican immigrants in the United States.

On June 16, Trump, who will be running for President in the upcoming 2016 U.S. election, had a media firestorm at his back after making generalizing and hateful comments about Mexicans in the U.S.

“The U.S. has become a dumping ground for everybody else’s problems. When Mexico sends its people, they’re not sending their best. They’re not sending you. They’re sending people that have lots of problems, and they’re bringing those problems with us. They’re bringing drugs. They’re bringing crime. They’re rapists. And some, I assume, are good people.”

The group, which has fought for undocumented immigrants before, will be gathering outside the Georgia St. and Bute St. construction site at 5 p.m. Tuesday.

“Our message is to potential investors — reconsider your business, this is a man that stands for racism, xenophobia and bigotry, and those values are not Canadian,” organizer Rocco Trigueros told 24hrs on Monday.
