Sizzling weekend weather could push Metro Vancouver temps past 30°C

If you thought summer was winding down in regards to Metro Vancouver weather, think again, as the heat is just getting started.

After weeks of flip-flopping between rain and sun, Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC) told Daily Hive that the region is about to bake in a late-August hot spell that will see inland areas soar past 30°C this weekend.

Earlier this week, Daily Hive reported that a ridge of high pressure was moving into southern B.C., setting the stage for a warming trend.

Now, that ridge is locked in and turning up the heat.

According to the Government of Canada’s weather website, while spots near Vancouver International Airport will hover in the mid-20s, communities further inland, like Burnaby, Coquitlam, Langley, and Maple Ridge, are expected to sizzle.

Metro Vancouver weather

Friday’s highs could touch 29°C with the humidex making it feel more like 32°C.

By Saturday, inland temperatures could peak at 31°C, with Sunday and Monday holding steady at around 30°C.

Nights aren’t offering much relief either, staying warm at 14 to 16°C.

For context, the seasonal norm for this time of year is around 23°C during the day and 13°C at night.

So yes, this is several degrees hotter than usual, and it’s coming right after last week’s rainfall that dumped up to 80 mm in parts of the region.

It’s a pretty dramatic shift, one week Metro Vancouverites are hauling out the umbrellas, the next they’re digging for sunscreen and cold drinks.

And with skies expected to stay clear through Tuesday, it’s the perfect excuse to soak up every ounce of summer before September rolls in.

No heat alerts are in place yet, but common sense summer rules apply: drink water, wear sunscreen, and don’t forget to check in on neighbours and furry friends.

This late-August blast will be short, sweet, and seriously hot.
