The first day of summer may still be over a week away, but Metro Vancouver is still feeling the burn from an early-season heat event.
Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC) issued a special weather statement for Metro Vancouver on Monday, June 9, announcing that “a period of elevated temperatures will continue.”
ECCC is also forecasting that inland temperatures will rise to over 30°C to start the week.

“A ridge of high pressure is bringing high temperatures to the region,” said ECCC.
The latest forecast shows that Metro Vancouver temperatures could hit a high of 28°C inland on Tuesday, June 10.
However, the temperatures with the Humidex can feel as high as 31°C, with a UV index of 9 or very high.
“Early season heat can be significant due to the lack of acclimatization to elevated temperatures,” added ECCC.

According to the Government of Canada, Humidex measures how warm we feel in hot, humid weather.
“Environment Canada uses humidex ratings to inform the general public when conditions of heat and humidity are potentially uncomfortable.”
ECCC also recently released its Metro Vancouver summer forecast model, which predicts an 87 per cent probability of above-normal temperatures for June, July, and August in the region.
