Metro Vancouver temperatures to hit over 30°C before drastic change this week

Metro Vancouver is experiencing a stretch of warm weather that has local residents heading to the beach and cranking up the air conditioning. But is relief in sight for the hot temperatures across the region?

Yes, according to Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC), but not before inland temperatures once again soar to over 30°C to start the week.

ECCC meteorologist Matt Loney told Daily Hive that Metro Vancouver will experience a warm, summery Monday with temperatures a bit above normal.

“Humidity is a factor, and so the temperature will feel higher than one normally would on a dryer day,” said Loney. “However, you can also expect a ridge [of] high pressure to establish itself.”

The latest forecast shows that Metro Vancouver temperatures could hit a high of 32°C inland on Tuesday, July 15.

However, the temperatures with the Humidex can feel as high as 36°C, with a UV index of 8 or very high.

Midweek temperatures will hover around 30°C inland on Wednesday and Thursday before showers could return starting on Friday night. The region could see a sizable drop in temperatures as the weekend rolls around.

“An upward disturbance could push its way into Southern B.C. for the weekend, and temperatures will come down towards normal,” added Loney. “There’s a potential for showers on Saturday, but it doesn’t look like it will be an exceptional amount of precipitation.”

Daytime highs in Metro Vancouver are expected to only hit 21°C on Saturday and Sunday, with overnight lows dropping to 15°C.
