Jul 14 2025, 6:10 pm

Several serious collisions across Metro Vancouver over the weekend left four people dead and closed major roads for hours.

The first incident happened early on Saturday, July 12, when a single-vehicle fatal collision occurred in the 1600 block of Mt. Seymour Road.

According to North Vancouver RCMP, the incident took place at 6 a.m., and partial lane closures were in place throughout the day as police continued their investigation.

Just after 5 p.m. the same day, a 78-year-old woman was struck by a black Range Rover while walking along East 41st Avenue near Culloden Street’s east lane in Vancouver.

According to Vancouver Police, the woman died at the scene despite first responders’ life-saving attempts. The driver of the Range Rover remained on the scene, and officers from VPD’s Collision Investigation Unit are continuing the investigation.

Less than 24 hours later, the New Westminster Police Department were called to a fatal crash near 5th Avenue and Stewardson Way at 8 a.m. on Sunday, July 13.

Traffic was rerouted for hours as drivers were asked to avoid the area of the collision. The BC Coroner and the Integrated Collision Analysis Reconstruction Service (ICARS) were also notified by authorities.

“Police are in the early stages of this investigation,” said Sergeant Andrew Leaver of the New West Police Department. “If you witnessed this collision or have dash-cam footage, please reach out to police.”

A fourth fatality occurred on Sunday evening in Surrey when a young child pedestrian was struck by a vehicle in the 13800 block of 64th Avenue.

Surrey Police Service (SPS) responded to a call about the collision around 8:17 p.m., and though BCEHS paramedics administered life-saving medical intervention to the child, the young pedestrian died on the scene.

The driver of the vehicle remained at the scene and is cooperating with police. SPS also announced that its Collision Investigation Unit has taken over the investigation with assistance from ICARS.

The busy weekend for crash investigators continued in Delta on Saturday when a serious collision between a Harley-Davidson motorcycle and a Toyota SUV also impacted commuters heading to the Tsawwassen Ferry Terminal.

Delta Police were called to the site of the crash at Highway 17 and Tsawwassen Drive around 11 a.m. The motorcyclist was transported to the hospital with life-altering injuries, and roads in the area were closed throughout the afternoon.

A Honda SUV was also damaged by debris from the initial collision. All drivers involved remained on scene and are cooperating with police.

“The minutes leading up to the collision, and the moments before the collision, are crucially important to the investigation,” said Corporal Michael McLaughlin with BC Highway Patrol in a release.

“If you were in the area and saw these vehicles, or have dash camera footage, you could really help police by sharing what you saw.”
