Hold on to your hats: Environment Canada issues second wind warning

Feb 26 2021, 4:58 pm

Environment Canada has issued a second wind warning in as many days for Metro Vancouver as gusts are expected to reach up to 90 km/h.

The alert was posted early Friday morning and is in effect for several areas:

  • Metro Vancouver – central including the City of Vancouver Burnaby and New Westminster
  • Metro Vancouver – North Shore including West Vancouver and North Vancouver
  • Metro Vancouver – southwest including Richmond and Delta

The weather authority warns that strong northwest winds of 70 km/h, and gusts up to 90 km/h, can be expected on Friday morning and again early this evening.

The winds will calm temporarily around noon before picking back up. They are expected to gradually ease by early Saturday morning.

“Loose objects may be tossed by the wind and cause injury or damage,” Environment Canada said. “High winds may toss loose objects or cause tree branches to break.”
