Drivers and commuters on a busy Metro Vancouver highway are being warned of possible delays after a scary motor vehicle collision sent a man to hospital.

The incident took place on Wednesday, Jan. 21, at about 10:15 a.m., when first responders were alerted to a rollover crash that happened on Barnet Highway near Reed Point Way.

“It was determined the driver of a dark Chevrolet pick-up truck lost control and landed in a ditch, trapping the driver (who was the sole occupant),” said Port Moody Police in a release.

Port Moody Fire Rescue firefighters cut the vehicle open and extracted the driver, who sustained serious injuries and was brought to the hospital.

Photos shared by police show the truck lying on its side, with its grille torn off and its rooftop cut away.

Authorities also stated that there may be some traffic delays in the areas due to the crash. Crews remain on the scene of the incident while tow operators work to remove the vehicle from the ditch.

“We are working to determine the cause of this collision,” added Port Moody Police Constable Sam Zacharias. “Any witnesses or anyone with a dash cam is asked to contact us.”

It has not been a safe time recently on Metro Vancouver roads.

Earlier this month, a 60-year-old woman was punched multiple times in a Vancouver road rage incident.

And in November, five pedestrians and cyclists were hit by cars in 48 hours, sparking a Burnaby RCMP warning.
