Drivers can now avoid traffic jams as TransLink revealed a new online map that tracks traffic levels in real time across Metro Vancouver.

The map is available here and uses a colour-coding system to indicate real-time traffic conditions. Green means traffic is moving well, orange indicates slow ,moving and red means traffic is horrible.

The data for the map is gathered by tracking of cell phone signals using GPS technology.  According to the B.C. government, all personal information is removed before one’s location is inputted in the system.

Th cost of the project is $1.2 million. It was paid for by Transport Canada ($490,000), the B.C. government ($335,000) and TransLink ($375,000).
