Pack your umbrellas and put on your galoshes, because this week’s forecast for Metro Vancouver is starting with a rainfall warning.
Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC) has issued a yellow-level weather alert for a frontal system that began drenching B.C.’s South Coast starting overnight and into Monday, Dec. 8.
According to ECCC meteorologist Bobby Sekhon, Metro Vancouver is going to be hit with “lots of rain.”

“Another system coming in Tuesday night and into Wednesday,” Sekhon told Daily Hive. “It will stay unsettled for the latter part of the work week.
“More systems coming up towards the weekend. It will be enough to keep us wet.”
According to the ECCC, between 50 and 70 mm of rain is expected for parts of the region to start the week.
Significant rainfall is expected in several parts of Metro Vancouver, including the North Shore (West Vancouver and North Vancouver), as well as in the northeast part of the region (including Coquitlam and Maple Ridge).
“Heavy rain will ease Monday evening with the passage of the system,” said ECCC in its rainfall warning.
“Water will likely pool on roads and in low-lying areas. Visibility will likely be suddenly reduced at times. Allow extra time for travel.”

With all of the precipitation in Vancouver’s weather forecast, what are the chances the region will see snowfall in the near future?
“The systems are coming from the subtropical Pacific,” explained Sekhon. “The freezing level is high enough that there’s not much chance of snow in Metro Vancouver. There is a pretty steady stream of rain, though.”
