Reopening of busy Metro Vancouver Highway 1 exit to be delayed

If you’re a Highway 1 commuter looking forward to the reopening of the westbound Kensington exit in Burnaby, you’ll have to wait a little longer.
Paving operations for the busy Exit 33 have been ongoing since July 2, shutting it down 24/7, seven days a week, as part of a Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure (MoTI) project.
The closure has also impacted one northbound lane on Kensington Avenue.
Repairs were initially scheduled to finish by Aug. 31, when the exit and lane were expected to reopen.
However, according to an update on DriveBC’s website, paving operations have been extended until Sept. 9, including the northbound Kensington Avenue lane closure.

In a previous statement, the City of Burnaby noted that the repairs “will address pavement settlement issues that have resulted in bumpy conditions for motorists.”
As usual, several construction projects around Metro Vancouver this summer have led to road closures and detours.
Daily Hive highlighted some in this article, but notable ones include the Steveston interchange project, Fraser Highway Skytrain construction, the Pattullo Bridge replacement project, and sewer upgrades on East 1st Avenue.
