If you catch sight of fighter jets roaring over Metro Vancouver the next few days, don’t be alarmed. It’s all part of celebrating and paying tribute to Canada’s aviation history, and it includes the famed Snowbirds.
The Abbotsford International Airshow is first up from Friday, Aug. 7, to Sunday, Aug. 9. Guests will enjoy aerial performances by fighter jets, aircraft displays, family-friendly activities, and the world’s best in military and civilian aviation.
It will also be an opportunity to see the Canadian Forces Snowbirds’ Final Fraser Valley Show in the iconic CT-114 Tutor.

“This year marks a historic milestone,” said Abbotsford Airshow in a release. “After 55 seasons flying the iconic Canadian-built CT-114 Tutor, the Canadian Forces Snowbirds will make their final Abbotsford performance in the aircraft that has become one of Canada’s most recognizable symbols.
“Since their first appearance at the Abbotsford International Airshow in 1971, the Snowbirds have helped define the Airshow experience for generations of British Columbians, inspiring audiences through precision, professionalism and teamwork.”
Earlier this year, it was revealed that Snowbirds would no longer be flying the Tutors next year as they wait for shipment of their new aircraft in a few years’ time.
There will be one more opportunity to see the Snowbirds fly over Metro Vancouver on Wednesday, Aug. 12.
The City of White Rock is hosting a free 45-minute Canadian Forces Snowbirds aerial demonstration over the waterfront starting at 5:30 p.m.
“The Snowbirds are a true showcase of Canadian pride, and we are incredibly excited to welcome them back to White Rock,” said Mayor Megan Knight in a statement.
“With the Semiahmoo Bay and our iconic Pier as the backdrop, this will be a memorable event for our community. We look forward to seeing everyone come together for this thrilling experience.”
