Surprising Metro Vancouver city named friendliest in B.C.
A new ranking reveals that the friendliest B.C. city is within Metro Vancouver.
Nextdoor, a neighbourhood networking platform, recently released its 2026 ranking of the friendliest cities within each Canadian province, which it says reveals “the communities where neighbours are most actively showing up for one another.”
Nextdoor rankings are based on “real neighbour interactions” on its platform, and its Nextdoor Friendliness Score takes into account a number of things that “reflect everyday neighbourly behaviour.”
For example, it looks at tone of neighbour conversations, how often requests for help or recommendations are fulfilled, items shared within the community, welcomes new neighbours, and how actively residents support local businesses.
“A friendly neighbourhood isn’t just about where you live; it’s about the people who make a place feel like home. At Nextdoor, we see that neighbourly spirit in action every day through people sharing local recommendations, offering resources, and lending a helping hand when someone needs it,” said Kelsey Grady, who works in communications at Nextdoor.
“These rankings celebrate the communities where those everyday acts of kindness and support are happening most often.”
Based on this, Nextdoor found that the friendliest city in B.C. is Delta. It has a friendliness score of 100, and Nextdoor describes it as “a picturesque town known for its rich farmland and vibrant bird species.”
Nextdoor said that its users “appreciate its clean, nature-filled atmosphere and the strong sense of community that makes it a friendly and family-oriented place to live.”
Its highlights include its beach, beauty, community, and the fact that it’s dog-friendly.
What are other friendly cities in B.C.?
Nextdoor lists the top 20 most friendly cities in B.C. After Delta, the top four include Courtenay (family-friendly with good walkability), Langford (good walkability, hiking trails, and dog-friendly), Nanaimo (family-friendly and dog-friendly), and Kelowna (clean, walkable streets, and friendly community atmosphere).
Vancouver also made the ranking, coming in at eighth place with a friendliness score of 95. Nextdoor said that its users “appreciate its friendly community atmosphere and walkability, with a diverse food scene that’s hard to beat.”
