Metro Vancouver saw a record number of housing starts in 2019: CMHC

Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation’s tally for 2019 shows the year saw a record number of residential housing starts in Metro Vancouver, with 28,141 starts recorded.

Throughout 2019, there were 3,426 starts for single-family dwellings, 530 starts for semi-detached dwellings, 2,684 starts for rowhouses, and 21,321 starts for apartments. The housing starts for 2019 also include 6,727 units for the rental market.

It surpasses the previous record of 27,914 starts the region experienced in 2016, when housing market conditions were considerably better.
