Mensch deli re-opening in Gastown in Salty Tongue location
It was a bit of a surprise in late December to learn that Mensch. Jewish Delicatessen was going to have to cease operations on East Broadway, however after the holidays and some time off, the newest hot pastrami hot spot will re-open in Gastown.
Moving into the space that will be vacated by the Salty Tongue at 212 Carrall Street, Mensch will open up in mid-February and run as a winter-spring pop-up for the next few months in the location. Following a “soft launch” phase, the restaurant’s official opening will be February 27.
Starting with the end of February official re-launch, Mensch will be open Monday to Friday, 11 am to 3 pm, and will serve brunch on Sundays from noon to 3 pm. They will also be offering delivery through Foodee and DoorDash.

On the menu at Mensch is chef/owner Nitzan Cohen’s hand-cut hot pastrami, served in a classic sandwich or as a Reuben on Rye bread, alongside offerings like egg salad on Challah bread, or their beet-cured lox on a bagel. For sweets, Mensch has sweet lokshen Kugel, and Lior’s Babkas (on Fridays or via pre-order).
For those who want to take a bite of Mensch home, the deli offers the option to purchase pastrami, lox, housemade Labneh cheese, and egg salad by the pound.
