McDonald's testing all-day breakfast

Craving a Sausage McMuffin at 4 p.m.? Normally you’d be S.O.L. but if you are pulling up to the drive-thru soon at a few select McDonald’s locations in the U.S. your food wishes are about to come true: McDonald’s is testing all-day breakfast service.

McDonald’s USA announced Monday that they will be trying out all-day breakfast service in San Diego, California. The company says it is in response to their customers asking for breakfast items outside of the restricted morning service hours, according to the Associated Press.

The test will feature a “partial menu” including some McDonald’s breakfast sandwiches and hash browns, though they did not indicate which specific ones would be hitting the grill in the afternoon and evening.

The fast food mega chain is suffering from lower sales and younger customers aren’t McLovin’ them as much as they did once upon a time. In order to keep people coming back, McDonald’s USA is looking to take off in new directions, including bringing on chicken that’s antibiotic-free, and now the exploration of all-day breakfast.

One of the reasons McDonald’s has held back on offering breakfast after 10:30 a.m. is because of limited grill and prep space in their kitchens.

We’ve reached out to McDonald’s Canada for commentary on whether the company is looking to explore all-day breakfast on this side of the 49th parallel.
