The May long weekend for Victoria Day is right around the corner, but so is some potentially bad news regarding the weather forecast for Metro Vancouver.
While we don’t yet know what the weather Gods are planning for Victoria Day Monday, we do know what Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC) predicts for the days leading up to it.
In short, wetness.

The May long weekend is one of the busiest in British Columbia for exploring the great outdoors. It’s an especially busy time for campers who flock to various campgrounds around the province. Tripadvisor says it’s the “official kick off for camping and summer time.”
While some residents enjoy the rain, it doesn’t make for a great camping trip.
As of Monday morning, ECCC’s forecast calls for showers and periods of rain for Metro Vancouver on Friday and Saturday before things are predicted to clear up on Sunday.

The forecast is similar if you plan to head out to Vancouver Island. Here’s what the seven-day outlook suggests for Victoria:

Victoria forecast (ECCC)
May long weekend aside, the general weather forecast for Metro Vancouver this week includes drastically cooler temperatures than last week, which saw some of its warmest days of the year so far. This week, temperatures are down to almost single digits, like on Thursday when a high of 11˚C is forecast.
A special weather statement has also been issued for the Okanagan Connector if you’re travelling from Merritt to Kelowna, as ECCC calls for a chance of wet snow and dense fog in the area. The statement is in effect from now until later this afternoon.
This follows a similar weather statement issued for multiple highways last week, which also called for wet snow at higher elevations.
If you’re heading out of town this weekend, it might be a good idea to Google the forecast for your destination. Looking at ECCC’s forecasts, some parts of the BC Interior will look worse than Metro Vancouver.
Depending on where you are, this weekend will be a mixed bag.
