Wish comes true for Syrian refugee who wanted to meet Justin Trudeau

For 16-year-old Syrian refugee Mawra Harb, meeting Prime Minister Justin Trudeau was one of her life’s biggest wishes.

And on Monday, it finally came true.

Harb, who suffers from Congenital Myopathy & Severe Scoliosis, had her wish fulfilled by The Children’s Wish Foundation.

The organization flew Harb and her family from Halifax to Ottawa to meet with the Prime Minister on Parliament Hill, and Trudeau took to Twitter to express how happy he was to see her.

“What a pleasure to host the Harb family on the Hill today. Marwa, I was touched by your story and I’m so glad you & your family are getting the support you need in Halifax,” said Trudeau in his tweet.

Harb gifted Trudeau a t-shirt from the King Jay clothing line, created by The Children’s Wish Foundation. The clothing line was created in memory of 18-year-old Jayden Strauss from Edmonton who was another Wish child.

Harb and her nine family members relocated to Halifax in 2016 when Syrian refugees were desperately trying to escape the violence and bloodshed back home.

After arriving in Canada, Harb was able to receive life-altering treatment for her illness.

“Due to Children’s Wish, my biggest wish has come true; I sincerely hoped to be able to meet and personally thank the person who has given my family and I the opportunity to start a new life filled with endless possibilities,” Harb said in a release from The Children’s Wish Foundation.
