A male masseur in New Westminster has been arrested after allegations of sexual assault during a massage.

According to the New Westminster Police Department (NWPD), the incident occurred in July at the Healthland Clinic, located on the 500 blocks of 6th Street. An adult female was receiving a massage while she was reportedly sexually assaulted during the treatment.

The male suspect was identified by detectives and arrested but he has since been released with charges of sexual assault recommended to Crown Counsel.

“Investigators believe there may be additional victims who have not yet come forward,” Sergeant Jeff Scott says in a statement. “It is important to know, if you have been a victim of sexual assault, you will be heard, and we will ensure you are offered resources and ongoing support.”

The NWPD also point out that allegations of sexual assault occurred at another Healthland Clinic location earlier this year. The Surrey RCMP investigated two reported incidents that took place in January at the Healthland Clinic in Surrey.

During the two incidents, a 48-year-old Asian man was arrested and released pending further investigation.

Anyone with more information regarding the alleged assaults in New Westminster, or who may have been a victim of a similar offence, is asked to contact the NWPD at 604-525-5411.
