After 14 months of investigating the murder of 13-year-old Marrisa Shen, who was found dead in Burnaby’s Central Park in July 2017, the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) announced on Monday morning they have arrested and charged a 28-year-old man with first-degree murder.

With news of the charges finally coming, Shen’s family has issued a public thank-you message to everyone involved in the case.

“We would like to take this opportunity to thank the public for all of their ongoing support and concern for us in this past year. We are aware that so many people reached out to the police to provide information, and we are so grateful for that.

We would also like to thank the media for all of their attention to Marissa’s case. And, lastly, we would like to thank the police for all of their hard work, and specifically IHIT for your perseverance.

We hope that justice will now be served, and that Marissa can finally be at peace in heaven.”
