The Ultimate Vancouver Brunch Guide: MARKET by Jean-Georges

We’re taking a tasty tour of Vancouver’s many brunches to create The Ultimate Vancouver Brunch Guide. This week we’re at MARKET by Jean-Georges sampling the restaurant’s new summer inspired brunch menu.

There’s nothing quite like a sunlit patio brunch to kick-off the weekend. Luckily for downtown brunch goers, MARKET by Jean-Georges has re-launched their Bubbles, Beats and Brunch menu, just in time for summer.

Served on the restaurant’s partially-covered outdoor patio, MARKET by Jean-George’s Bubbles, Beats and Brunch features an array of mid-morning indulgences including a variety of shared brunch plates, booze-forward cocktails, and a live DJ mix.

The weekend brunch menu, similar to their weekday menu, endeavors to capture local flavours. However, unlike the lunch and dinner courses, which concentrate on serving individual plates, brunch at MARKET by Jean-Georges has been designed to be sampled and shared.

Indeed, the menu encourages guests to share a range of brunch-inspired treats. Great for social brunchers, MARKET by Jean-George’s brunch menu consists of a varied selection of ‘social plates’ and features one-bite blueberry pancakes with maple syrup ($6), crab fritters with black pepper jam and Asian pear endives ($12), pork belly steam buns with chili mayo, herb salad and peanut brittle ($10), chilled poached white shrimp ($12), and many more enticing tapas-style dishes.

Diners who are not up for sharing have the opportunity to order one of the listed ‘self indulger’ plates. More substantial in size these heartier meals include: house-made toasted granola with yogurt, elderflower and berries ($10); Dungeness Crab Benedict on English muffin with arugula ($24); short rib hash with crispy kale and skillet baked eggs ($22), and a three-egg, ham, mushroom and spinach omelette ($18), among others.

In addition to the lip-smacking food options, MARKET by Jean-Georges also offers a variety of summer-themed drink pitchers and punch bowls, as well as hand-crafted gin and tonics. For those brunching with friends the pitchers and punch bowls are a great way to toast the morning.

Intended to be split between parties of six to eight, The Market Punch ($55), comes highly recommended and is comprised of Bulleit Bourbon, pomegranate and blueberry tea, orange, pineapple, lemon, honey, ginger beer and Elemakule Tiki Bitters.

Aside from the enticing list of food and drinks, MARKET by Jean-Georges has also added into their brunch mix DJ Charles Blair, who come the weekend plays a set of well-rounded tunes as patrons eat and sip their way through brunch.
