Marine Gateway at Cambie and Marine

With the completion of the Canada Line nearing, proposals for projects near the new rapid transit line seem to be increasing. One of the more ambitious projects proposed is the Marine Gateway (@ the old ICBC site) from PCI Group, makers of the fine Crossroads development on Cambie and Broadway. The is a huge proposal, which includes 330 market residential units, 200 + rental units (optional) and a stepped office tower.

This project promises to be a one stop shop for residences as it will include the following elements:

  • Theatre
  • Fitness Centre
  • Grocery Store
  • Cafe’s
  • Banks
  • Restaurants
  • Daycare
  • Medical and Dental Offices
  • and much more..

Of note the covered plaza looks great and is a must in rainy Vancouver. The project if it goes through will create 2300 permanent jobs in that location. Let’s hope city hall does not mess this up. However, having said that a potential snag is that the site is currently zoned industrial and the City of Vancouver is reluctant to change industrial zoning. We’ll see how this plays out.
In addition, all you have to do is hop on the skytrain and your in Downtown in 15 minutes. The location is great and the project is necessary to revive this rather dormant area (residentially speaking). This is exactly the kind of density needed around our rapid transit lines in order to increase ridership.
