What started as a disappointing birthday ended up being a day one young Toronto Maple Leafs fan will never forget, after he was flooded with supportive birthday messages from the team over the weekend.

Leafs forwards Mitch Marner and John Tavares are among those sending birthday wishes to Kade Foster in response to a viral tweet from his father, Jason Foster of Corner Brook, NL.

“My son Kade had his 11th birthday party last night. None of his invited friends came. That hurt. I’m asking my Twitter friends to show him some love today. If you have a minute, please send him a birthday wish, ” reads the tweet, which also tagged Marner and Tavares.

“Happy 11th Birthday Kade! All your friends on the team look forward to celebrating with you. I’m hearing it’s going to be quite the surprise, tweeted Leafs captain, John Tavares.

Defenceman Morgan Riley also gave Kade a birthday shout out.

“Wanted to wish my friend Kade a Happy 11th Birthday! Your friends from the Maple Leafs have a surprise gift coming your way!” Marner tweeted in response.

Auston Matthews also shared some birthday love with Kade.

The Maple Leafs official account even joined in on the fun and said they loved Kade’s birthday cake.

On Sunday afternoon, Kade’s dad tweeted, “we can’t comprehend what has happened today. Kade and the rest of us are just amazed. To EVERYONE who sent Kade a message – thank you from the bottom of our hearts. He is an amazing son and he will never forget this day.”

By Monday morning, the initial post had been shared more than 18,000 times and garnered responses from Twitter users around the world, including messages from Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and actors Ben Stiller, Mark Hamill, and Will Arnett — who is also a huge Leafs fan.
