A man has died after drowning in Cultus Lake, despite life-saving efforts from first responders.
Upper Fraser Valley RCMP has shared more information about the unfortunate incident.
On Aug. 20, at around 1:10 p.m., Chilliwack RCMP received a missing person report. The report said that the missing person was last seen in the waters of Cultus Lake near Entrance Bay. He was on an inflatable boat prior to going missing.
“Officers responded immediately, along with other first responder agencies, and began searching the area where the man was last seen,” RCMP said in a release.
Approximately an hour and a half after the missing person report, at 2:40 p.m., the man was located in the water near Entrance Bay, where he was retrieved by first responders.
Despite first responders administering CPR, RCMP says the man did not survive.
“The investigation has now been turned over to the BC Coroner Service,” RCMP said.
“Chilliwack RCMP would like to thank the Cultus Lake Fire Department and Chilliwack Search and Rescue for their expertise and assistance,” it added.
RCMP Corporal Carmen Kiener, spokesperson for the Upper Fraser Valley Regional Detachment, reflected on the drowning.
“This is a tragic incident that no one intends to happen when they spend a day enjoying the water,” Kiener said.
“Our condolences go out to the man’s family and friends during this difficult time.”
