Two transit police officers are both currently self-isolating at home, following a reported incident at the New Westminster SkyTrain Station over the weekend.

Transit Police Sgt. Clint Hampton told Daily Hive the incident took place at 2 pm on March 21, when police were called to the area for reports of a man threatening a SkyTrain station attendant, as well as a member of the public, with a knife.

Police arrived on the scene and arrested the individual, but not before the officers said the suspect started “intentionally coughing and spitting at officers.”

The man is now facing numerous charges, including Assault, Assault with a Weapon, Assault a Peace Officer, and Uttering Threats.

Hampton said both the arresting officer and their partner involved in the incident are now self-isolating.

“We are very proud of the professionalism we see amongst our officers who are working under very difficult and stressful situations,” he added.
