A man, panhandling at a SkyTrain station earlier this week, was arrested after reportedly making racist remarks towards a woman who refused to give him money, and pulling a folded knife on SkyTrain staff when they attempted to intervene.

According to Transit Police Sgt. Clint Hampton, the incident took place at the Edmonds station in Burnaby at 1:30 pm on Monday.

Hampton told Daily Hive the suspect is in his 20s and he is “well-known” to police.

“We have recommended charges for assault with a weapon and uttering threats,” he added.
