This might just be the best Thai culinary experience in Kitsilano
If you’re craving a taste of beautiful Thai flavour, Maenam in Kistilano is the place to be.
The 4th Avenue restaurant specializes in serving authentic Thai cuisine with a twist – and man, it is one delicious twist if you ask us.
Chef Angus An’s dinner tasting menu incorporates a wonderful variety of six or more family-style dishes ranging from small bites, to soups, to full entrees.
Starting with appetizers such as Mahor – a Thai meatball made from chicken and prawn – served on fresh pineapple and Salmon Nam Prik topped with spicy fish relish, the menu takes patrons on a journey full of uncommon gastronomic delights.
The bulk of the Chef’s Tasting Menu here includes hearty dishes like Steamed Clams served with lemon grass and Thai basil and a Northern Thai-style free range chicken soup with basil and tomatoes.
Next up is the Sockeye Salmon salad which is served with shredded young coconut and roasted peanuts on a bed of mint and coriander, along with a crispy 8-spice Ling cod with caramelized palm sugar and tamarind sauce.
Other dishes on the menu include an Eggplant and Pork Stir Fry with fermented spy bean and a Green Curry with Braised Beef Short Rib.
Dessert is a traditional Thai tea panna cotta, a light and refreshing finish to a stellar menu of traditional Thai eats. The Chef’s Menu at Maenam is $47 per person, and it is also available as a vegetarian meal for $40. Wine pairings can be made for 3 oz or 5 oz pours for an additional charge as well.
Overall this menu is a fantastic way to get a taste of authentic Thai food right in the heart of Kitsilano, just make sure you’re prepared to go into a full-on food coma after your meal.
Also, if Kate Winslet likes the food here, chances are you will too.
Maenam is open for dinner service daily from 5 to 10 pm (the Chef’s Menu is available for order until 9:30 pm).
