Clothing and footwear trends may change during a pandemic, but designer handbags continue to be a staple paired with outfits for social outings and shopping trips.
Anyone who has a soft spot for Gucci, Louis Vuitton, Chanel, Balenciaga, Fendi, or YSL knows that certain products by these designers can retail brand new for more than a month’s salary.
However, buying the same items through a consignment boutique lets you save money, shop sustainably, and support the circular economy. Luxe Du Jour, a Canadian-born online consignment business specializing in authentic luxury bags, understands the impact that shopping pre-owned has on the environment (and budgets).
Unlike other consignment boutiques, Luxe Du Jour offers a cash buyout for your pre-loved designer totes, wallets, and purses.
When Luxe Du Jour’s founder Tammy Phan was just 14 years old and a self-confessed “bag addict,” she started collecting designer handbags with her own money.
“I couldn’t find a single reliable place to sell my bags that didn’t take high commission fees of 40%, so I decided to create my own company and only take 15%, which would save clients a lot of money,” she tells Daily Hive.
In 2016, the entrepreneur turned her passion for luxury bags into a successful online business in Vancouver, before entering into the Calgary market, where the company’s HQ is now located. Today, Luxe Du Jour also has three subsidiary locations internationally.
Luxe Du Jour’s Instagram (where new inventory is posted daily) has played a key role in the company’s expansion. “We respond to customer inquiries extremely quickly and frequently share unique and informative content through our stories,” Phan says.
Not only this, but the online consignment business also shares tips on how to spot fake designer products and protect yourself from counterfeit scams. “All of this has helped us build a relationship of trust with our clients, who help us with word-of-mouth marketing.”
Since the COVID-19 crisis began, Phan says her company has seen a huge increase in sales. A key reason for this, she notes, is because Luxe Du Jour educates clients on how certain brands, especially Chanel, are actually a great investment when purchased pre-owned.
“A lot of clients are now investing into the pre-owned market and profiting when they resell after they are done enjoying the bag.” She also explains how women can shop safely and securely online amid the pandemic with delivery right to their doorsteps.
Luxe Du Jour’s consignment fees are notably low when compared to competitors. Here’s a look at the current fees, which start at a minimum of $100:
- Under $500 ($100 fee)
- $500 to $2,500 (19%)
- $2,501 to $5,000 (17%)
- $5,001 to $10,000 (15%)
- Over $10,001 (12%)
The company also offers a cash buyout for authentic designer bags. This is something you receive when your item has been approved for sale by the company.
It means that if you don’t want to wait for someone to purchase the item via the Luxe Du Jour website, the company will offer you a lower quote option — for instant funds — valid for 30 days.
When consignment or buyout quotes are accepted, the relevant documents are printed out by sellers and attached to the item. You then have the option to drop the item off at the location provided by Luxe Du Jour or to send it to the Calgary HQ by mail.
To maintain a high standard for buying or selling luxury handbags, Luxe Du Jour only accepts items with a condition rating of 80% or above. So, why wait for your luxury handbags to depreciate in the back of your closet?
Luxe Du Jour also offers their signature “Luxe Bag Spa” for your treasured designer goods, providing repair and restoration services for well-loved bags that may have seen better days. The service helps to keep bags within the circular economy, and ensures that they’re looking their very best, no matter how many hands they’ve passed through.
