Luongo shares hilarious tweet after Marchand's overtime goal against Edmonton Oilers

Roberto Luongo was loving Brad Marchand’s double overtime winner versus the Edmonton Oilers on Friday night.

Luongo, who serves as a special advisor to Florida Panthers GM Bill Zito, has had plenty of fun on social media over the fact that his team acquired Brad Marchand at the trade deadline. The two, of course, were big rivals at one point, having went head-to-head in the 2011 Stanley Cup Final when Luongo was a member of the Vancouver Canucks.

Now, the two are on the same side, and Marchand is continuing to produce on the ice. The 37-year-old scored two goals in the Panthers’ 5-4 win over the Oilers, including the overtime winner, prompting this hilarious tweet from Luongo.

“Lou’s awesome, he’s an incredible person,” Marchand said after the game. “Happy to be on his team.”

Marchand has quickly proven that he still has plenty of game left, as he is now up to seven goals and 17 points through 19 playoff games.

With last night’s win, the Panthers were able to tie this series up at one apiece and are now headed back to Amerant Bank Arena for Games 3 and 4. They are looking to pick up their second-straight Stanley Cup championship, while this would serve as Marchand’s first since winning it with the Bruins back in 2011.

As hard as it is for Canucks fans to root for a team with Marchand on its roster, there are many who are choosing to do it so that Luongo, a long-time fan favourite, is able to hoist the Cup for a second time.

Game 3 of this series will get underway on Monday night, with puck drop scheduled for 5 p.m. PDT.
