Lower Mainland could see its first snowfall by Monday morning

Snow began falling in some parts of the Lower Mainland Sunday afternoon, and the Fraser Valley could see up to 10 centimetres by Monday morning.

Environment Canada has issued snowfall warning from Abbotsford to Hope, calling for snow Sunday afternoon and evening.

“After a stretch of dry and cold weather, a weak front will move onto the Lower Mainland today, bringing the chance for snow to the region this afternoon and tonight,” the weather agency said Sunday.

“The highest amounts are expected in the eastern Fraser Valley, where cool outflow winds will keep the precipitation as snow through Monday morning.”

Snow is expected to change to rain by Monday afternoon.

There’s also a chance of flurries in other parts of the Lower Mainland. Vancouver could see snow Sunday afternoon, but that will likely turn to rain as temperatures climb going into Monday morning.
