Canadian lottery player becomes a millionaire over the weekend
For one Canadian, the weekend no doubt ended on a high note after scoring a major lottery win.
While most of us are battling the Monday blues, one Canadian is kicking off the week a whole lot richer after the most recent lottery draw. The Lotto 6/49 draw took place on Saturday, Aug. 15, and the Gold Ball winning numbers were 57432319-01. According to PlayNow, someone from Ontario matched the numbers, scoring the game’s $1-million prize.
The Gold Ball Prize up for grabs at the time was worth $12 million, after someone in Saskatoon, Sask. won the life-changing $44-million prize on Saturday, Aug. 8.
No one scored the $5-million Classic Draw Prize during the most recent draw, but two Canadians did win the second prize. After splitting the prize, they’ll each get to take home $91,990. The tickets were sold in Ontario and Quebec. A total of 65 lottery players won the third prize, and they’ll each receive $1,188.50.
In B.C., there were no winners for the $500,000 Classic Draw Extra Prize. However, another Canadian is $1 million richer after someone in Ontario matched the Encore top prize-winning numbers 5320693.
The next Lotto 6/49 jackpot is worth $14 million, and the draw is on Wednesday, Aug. 19.

The Lotto Max draw was on Friday, Aug. 14. Although no one scored the $40-million jackpot, someone in Western Canada did win the $185,071.60 second prize. According to the Western Canada Lottery Corporation (WCLC), the winning ticket was purchased in Alberta. Thirty-four winners matched the third prize-winning numbers, and each one will take home $5,546.30.
There were 40 MaxPlus Prizes, each worth $100,000. Winning tickets were sold in Ontario, three in Quebec, two in Alberta, and one in Truro, N.S.
No one scored the $500,000 Lotto Max Extra Prize in B.C., and similarly no one won the $1-million Encore top prize in Ontario.
The next Lotto Max draw is on Tuesday, Aug. 18, and the jackpot is worth $50 million with two Maxmillions and 50 MaxPlus prizes to be won.
