It’s been just over one year since LIVIA (a little slice of heaven, as far as we’re concerned) opened its door on Commercial Drive.

Up until recently, the East Vancouver eatery and bakery was open most days from 7 am to 7 pm, but now it offers a delightful dinner service from Thursday to Saturday.

For some spots, it can be tricky to make the switch from daytime nibbles to the world of hearty evening service grub, but for LIVIA, it’s a natural (and delicious) transition that was always the plan for owners and husband-wife duo Claire Livia Lassam and Jordan Pires.

In addition to their signature artisan sourdough bread, baguettes, focaccia, potato buns, and seasonal sweet and savoury creations, LIVIA now offers an array of Northern Italian dinner eats inspired by Lassam’s family suppers growing up.

She and Pires describe the menu as featuring “deceptively simple Roman food,” and you pair that with a cozy, Insta-worthy room and service that makes you feel right at home, and it’s something to be excited about.

Virtually everything on the menu is made in-house, and that includes Chef James Frost’s weekly rotating pastas, which are created fresh daily.

To really soak in the whole experience, we recommend leaving the car at home so you can dig into Pires’ carefully curated bar program.

This includes classic cocktails, wine, vermouth, amaro, and several varieties of negronis — we’re talking five and counting.

“The bar menu is ever-evolving but we truly love introducing people to new things that we love, especially from our vermouth and amaro list,” says Pires. “It’s been great seeing our neighbours pull up a chair and sit at the bar with friends and family. There is nothing quite like the Drive community.”

Whether you come for LIVIA’s Apertivo offering (between 3 and 6 pm), for a beverage and an adorably, drool-worthy Pizzette, or for a filling dinner of fresh pasta, antipasti, and of course, some can’t-miss desserts, you won’t be disappointed.
