E-reality show begins at Central City Mall in Surrey, with three actors living in a glass-walled condo suite for six weeks to promote a new development by Rize Alliance.

Monday morning marked the start of an interesting new marketing campaign for a new condominium development. Central City Mall in Surrey is set to play host to an e-reality show, with a Big Brother twist: three actors will live in a glass-walled condo suite built right into the mall, with all of their actions being filmed and broadcast live on the Internet for six weeks. The LiveatWave campaign’s purpose is to build up hype for the latest Rize Alliance development, Wave, with a heavy emphasis on social media usage and non-traditional advertising methods. The campaign involves the three aforementioned actors, eight additional actors and scriptwriter David King. The live stream will be accessible worldwide at waveliving.ca, with clips of scripted daily highlights being posted to YouTube.

This ongoing event features three actors: Leana Yu, Jas Dhillon and John Perrotta. Each individual plays a character with a unique role in the story. Yu plays Lily, a yoga instructor who owns the condo in which the show unfolds. Parm Gill (Dhillon) is a photographer and Lily’s best friend, who moves in to the condo after going through a rough break-up, while John Rossi (Perrotta) is Lily’s live-in actor/bartender boyfriend. There will be a scripted component to the event once daily, with this part subsequently being uploaded to YouTube. The rest of the show will be entirely improvised by the actors. The launch of the show kicked off with Parm being dumped by her boyfriend Ryan, leading to her moving in to Lily’s condo amidst mild protest from John. Right from the start, Parm and John were at each other’s throats, so the tension is sure to rise over the coming six weeks.

The scripted parts of the show will feature celebrity guests, who will spice up the drama in the condo. One celebrity appearance that was mentioned was Jillian Harris, who has appeared on both The Bachelor and The Bachelorette, on top of having been a designer on Extreme Makeover: Home Edition and the host of HGTV’s Canada’s Handyman Challenge. More celebrities will be announced throughout the campaign’s run through social media. With the show running during mall hours, it will undoubtedly draw significant attention from shoppers, and that’s before considering the potentially large online audience.

In addition, there are a healthy amount of prizes up for grabs. The Twitter contest will be a daily open call to answer questions about what happened on the live stream, with the first response winning a prize. A Facebook contest will be held weekly and centered on friend referrals, with the prize having a cash value of up to $250. Finally, there is a grand prize drawing in early May for the furnishing of the LiveatWave sample condo, valued at around $60,000. This contest can be entered by registering for more information on Wave’s website.

The development itself has an interesting architectural design, truly playing up its name in evoking the image of a wave. The project provides simple, affordable housing aimed at single young professionals. Rize Alliance president Will Lin spoke of the building design at the launch conference, with the goal having been to create functional spaces for residents to comfortably live, work and play, while also building an architectural legacy for future generations. Accommodations will fall anywhere from studio apartments to townhouse-style residences, ranging in size from 522 square feet to over 1,000. Located just blocks away from Central City, construction is planned to start in October of this year with early 2015 being the target occupancy date. Considering its close proximity to the developing new downtown area of Surrey, the site offers prime real estate starting at $179,900. The sales centre, which will be located at 103 Avenue and 133rd Street, will open in mid-April in preparation for the launch of sales near the end of May.

If interested in the development, or if you want to watch the live stream of the LiveatWave show, check out the website here. If you are interested in seeing the scene play out in-person, you can see the show within Central City Mall near The Brick and Tim Horton’s. Be on the lookout for a deeper look into the development itself later this week!
