A large-scale search to find a woman reported missing on Sunday has been called off after the discovery of a body.

Squamish RCMP received a call Sunday afternoon from a family member of Lorraine Prebushewski in Lions Bay.  She was last seen at 10 am and left home on foot from the home she was staying at on Kelvin Grove Way.

Her disappearance triggered a search mission response in conjunction with Squamish RCMP, Lions Bay Search and Rescue, Coast Guard, and RCM SAR.

RCMP say around 2 pm an off-duty officer called in to alert authorities a body was discovered at Kelvin Grove Beach in Lions Bay.

Sandro Frei of Lions Bay Search and Rescue told Daily Hive its members recovered the body of Lorraine Prebushewski.

Although a final identification by the coroner is pending, RCMP say initial indicators point to the body being the missing woman.

The death is not being treated as suspicious.

“The Squamish RCMP would like to thank all those involved in the search for Ms. Prebushewski over the last number of days, particularly Lions Bay SAR, the Coast Guard, and RCM SAR,” Corporal Sascha Banks said in a statement.

“Also a thank you to the media for getting the information out about Ms. Prebushewski so quickly.  Our thoughts are with the family and friends of Ms. Prebushewski.”
