Lil Bird Sandwich Co. to open inside Kafka’s Coffee on Main Street
Something exciting is popping up inside Kafka’s Main Street coffee shop this week.
The popular coffee purveyor is gearing up to open its new window sandwich bar, Lil Bird Sandwich Co., on Tuesday, May 12 at its 2525 Main Street location.

The new window will offer patrons delicious housemade sourdough sandwiches from Kafka’s head chef Nitzan Cohen, who is also behind the Mensch’s Jewish Delicatessen pop-ups.

On Tuesday there will be four different sandwiches available, including The Holy Grilled Cheese (blend of cheddar, Swiss, and Gouda), Meat your Match (mortadella, salami, Swiss, sriracha mayo, tomato, pickled onions, and greens), Uncle Antipasto (marinated peppers, fresh basil, tomato, fresh mozzarella, balsamic aioli, and greens), Super Chicken Shawarma (brined free-range chicken, preserved lemon aioli, pickled turnips, fresh herbs, and tomato).
Folks can choose to have their sandwiches on a house-made sourdough hoagie roll or sourdough loaf.

Lil Bird will also have freshly squeezed lemon and pomegranate lemonade on the menu, alongside the Wee Bird Meal for their kids, which includes a small sandwich, apple slices, and a cookie.
“Even before COVID-19, I wanted to introduce more meals at my Main Street location. We’ve developed a phenomenal food program at our other locations, but this takes it all to a new level,” says Aaron Kafka, owner of Kafka’s Coffee.
“During these trying times, we wanted to give everyone something quick and easy to order and pick-up, straight from our open window. It’s contactless, it’s convenient, and it’s delicious. To make a great sandwich, it’s all about fresh ingredients, layering, and making sure that each element is perfect for that sandwich. We make all our bread, sauces, and pickles in-house and get our meats and cheeses from local producers. Each bite is full of flavour.”

Lil Bird Sandwich Co. officially opens on Tuesday, after it will be open daily 11:30 am to 2:30 pm.
A percentage of Lil Bird’s sales will also be donated towards the Vancouver Food and Beverage Community Relief Fund, so be sure to check it out.
